While the Environmental Safety Group is very pleased to see Minister Vinet celebrate World Environment Day by planting a tree, the group states that what would be significant would be to see Government progress on the major environmental issues and engage in a programme of environmental reform. These must include:
– Environmental Charter
– Reduced air and noise emissions from our power stations and dockyard
– Up-to-date development plan incorporating green areas
– Sewage Treatment Plant
– Limits on air and marine pollution
– Traffic Modelling and management
– Waste reduction and recycling policy
– Investment in renewable and sustainable technologies
In fact, any policy initiatives on the above to effectively improve Gibraltar’s environment and be more responsible as a “global player” would be much more appreciated by the ESG and the voting public than one small tree.
