He spoke to the media and explained that a little bit more fuel oil had been removed, but that this was being hampered by the position of the vessel and moreover by the temperature of the fuel, which had caused it to become extremely viscous and difficult to extract.
In short, this salvage operation is clearly not an exact science. To this end, given the level of concern among the public, not just in Gibraltar but in the Bay area, the ESG is of the opinion that it is vital for the authorities to reassure the public with as much information as possible.
