This Saturday 23rd June 2007 sees the launch of the “In Town Without My Car” Campaign. The campaign is co-ordinated by a steering committee made up of or contributed to by a cross section of local NGO’s and associations including the ESG, Friends of the Earth Gibraltar, GONHS, Heritage Trust, Cycling Association, Rambling Association, Womens Association, and the Ministry of the Environment with many other charities and business organisations also taking part in the campaign.
In Town Without My Car is officially part of Bike Week UK and it is hoped that it will also be given official Participating City status for European Mobility Week. The campaign will run from 23 rd June 2007 to the 22nd September 2007 with the overall aim of raising awareness of alternative forms of urban transport – principally walking, cycling and public transport. Specific aims and objectives of the campaign will be announced at the campaign launch.
In Town Without My Car will launch this Saturday 23rd June 2007 with a family cycle starting in Casemates at 11am. There will also be free bicycle MOTs, face painting, activity sheets, cycling information and free participation certificates for the younger riders as well as information about the campaign. The rally is a rare opportunity for people of all ages to cycle along Main Street (ordinarily restricted to pedestrians) and also to cycle safely, under police and cycle warden escort, along Queensway, one of Gibraltar’s busier thoroughfares. Along Queensway to the Kings Bastion
Along Reclamation Road
Through Orange Bastion
Down Cooperage Lane
Return to Casemates finishing no later than 12 pm
